CERM Certificate
Community Economic Resilience Mentorship (CERM) Certificate
What is CERM Certification?
Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) has supported communities with business and economic response and recovery efforts during the 2013 Southern Alberta floods, the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfires, COVID lockdowns, and the 2024 Alberta Wildfires.
EDA’s award-winning Economic Disaster Recovery Program (EDRP) provides the most up-to-date training, resources, and best practice information on how communities can prepare for, respond to, and recover their businesses and economies from unanticipated disruptions, such as natural disasters or man-made crises. Equipping community leaders and economic development professionals enables them to understand better their roles and responsibilities in moving their region's economic recovery and resiliency plans forward. While a growing number of EDA members and stakeholders have first-hand experience with natural and other types of disasters, many still lack the theoretical knowledge of how to plan and what to do.
To build additional capacity on an ongoing basis, EDA has developed a basic certification process for Community Economic Resilience Mentors (CERMs). This process will enable EDA to have a robust list of CERMs ready and willing to serve on future Technical Assistance Teams (TATs) with expertise in economic development recovery and resiliency, significantly impacting our communities.
Certification Process
To obtain a CERM Certificate, the following criteria must be met:
- Completion of the following courses available from the EDA Institute: Community Economic Resilience (CER), Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E), and Mental Well-being for Community Leaders (MW)
- The EDA Technical Assistance Team (TAT) Module
- ICS-100 online training (offered by ICS Canada)
Upon confirmation of this training, EDA will issue a certificate of completion.
