Raising The Bar
As an economic development professional, you understand that enhancing opportunities and prosperity for all communities will strengthen the attractiveness of the entire province. EDA has developed a cutting-edge program that gives EDA members the tools to help build a thriving economic future for the province’s less affluent communities.
Here’s how it began:
At the April 2011 Annual General Meeting, EDA members voted to incorporate a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) element into the work and activities of the EDA. The Raising The Bar (RTB) initiative, which includes both a Charitable Fund (administered through The Calgary Foundation) and a Member Contribution component, builds upon EDA’s current scholarship and professional development activities and provides a mechanism for EDA members to contribute to the economic future of less advantaged communities and the province as a whole.
Here’s how it works:RTB supports opportunities for EDA members to contribute their time and expertise to less affluent communities within the province to help them develop and implement meaningful economic development projects. The Members’ pro bono work can be supported by small grants from the Charitable Fund to cover out of pocket expenses related to approved projects.
The Member Contribution will provide valuable opportunities for individual members to share their expertise, mentor new professionals in the field and enhance the capacity of communities within the province to identify and pursue economic development opportunities. In turn, members will gain valuable professional development and growth opportunities.
NOTE: EDA is currently revamping the program based on its experience with the EDRP. More updates to come in the near future.
