IEDC's Economic Resilience Training for Community and Regional Leaders 

IEDC has signed an MOU with EDA to pilot its Economic Resilience Training for Community and Regional Leaders in Canada. This training is being done in 2017 in the following communities:

Funding for this initiative was provided in part by the Government of Alberta. Trainers from the IEDC and EDA are running this interactive, boot camp style course, covering the following topics:
  • Disaster preparation measures and building capacity for recovery
  • Strategic planning for disaster recovery
  • Proactive disaster risk management
  • Business assistance after a crisis
  • Maximizing response speed and effectiveness
  • Alignment with Federal government response measures
  • Working with emergency management, law enforcement, and fire protection entities
  • Small business assistance and industry recovery
  • Business retention and expansion before and after a disaster
  • Assessing the economic impacts of a major disaster
  • Crisis communications
  • Federal resources for disaster planning and mitigation
  • Infrastructure and building back better communities
  • Neighborhood revitalization
  • Economic diversification
Once the four pilot communities have been trained, and materials confirmed for the Canadian market, EDA and IEDC will open up the course for other communities in Canada to book.
